Beginner to Mid-Game Path
A practical progression route from tutorial through cooking, deliveries, and your first skill points.
Sunflower Land opens systems gradually. Trying to max everything at once wastes time and stock space. This guide orders the first weeks so each new mechanic pays for the next.
Phase 1 — Tutorial and first expansion (days 1–3)
Focus on coins, bumpkin XP, and tool crafting. Plant fast crops, sell surplus at the market stall, and keep axes and pickaxes ready. Pete's quests gate important buildings — treat them as your checklist on Quests info.
| Goal | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Basic tools always crafted | Nodes and expansions need iron and wood |
| First land expansion | More plots and resource nodes |
| Delivery unlock | Steady coin and ticket income |
Watch shop stock. When seeds or tools hit zero in the Market/Workbench, buy a Restock — harvests themselves are not deleted by a “full bag.” Read Shop stock.
Phase 2 — Deliveries and bumpkin XP (week 1)
Once NPCs visit your island, deliveries become your economic engine. Each order asks for crops, cooked food, or crafted goods and pays coins, flowers, or seasonal tickets. Compare reward tables on Deliveries info.
Parallel track: bumpkin XP. Your avatar level gates expansions, recipes, and skills. Eat cooked food for XP — raw crops alone will not carry you through mid-game level requirements. See Bumpkin XP for level thresholds.
- Cook the simplest kitchen recipes you can afford.
- Feed your bumpkin before spending food on deliveries that need it.
- Prioritize orders with high coin-per-ingredient when you are broke.
Phase 3 — Kitchen and cooking economy (week 2)
Build toward a Fire Pit, then Kitchen when unlocked. Cooking converts cheap crops into high-XP meals and delivery items. Open Cooking info to sort recipes by time, XP per day, and live P2P ingredient cost.
Early cooking priorities:
- XP efficiency — meals that level you toward the next expansion gate.
- Delivery overlap — recipes that appear often in NPC orders.
- Stock discipline — ingredients like Honey and Fruit stack slowly; plan ahead.
Oil and building upgrades reduce cook times. Do not chase perfect kitchen min-maxing until deliveries feel comfortable.
Phase 4 — Fishing and side systems (weeks 3–4)
When fishing unlocks, it adds bait recipes, chum, and bonus rewards for deliveries and quests. Read the dedicated Fishing guide and keep Fishing info open for fish-by-location tables.
Add systems only when they support deliveries or XP:
- Animals for eggs, wool, and milk used in cooking (Animals info).
- Flowers later for honey and crossbreeds (Flowers guide).
- Skills once you have a clear main activity (Skills guide).
Phase 5 — Mid-game pivot (month 1+)
By mid-game you choose a main loop: cooking-heavy deliveries, resource crafting, fishing bundles, or seasonal chapter tasks. Most players hybridize around deliveries + cooking XP + one hobby system.
Checklist before late-game spend:
- Bumpkin level matches next Expansion row you target.
- Stock limits upgraded for your heaviest resources.
- At least one skill tree branch started (Skills info).
- Wallet funded for occasional on-chain actions (Wallets & tokens).
Manager habit: Once per session, search your farm on home and compare inventory to what deliveries ask for today. Keep the extension open for timers; use the site map when planning skills, expansion, or sales.
What to defer
- Pets until daily feeding fits your routine (Pets guide).
- Faction min-maxing until you join a stable group (Factions guide).
- Marketplace flipping until you understand fees (Marketplace guide).
- Auction bidding until you hold excess FLOWER (Chapter race).
Next step
Lock in your economy basics with Wallets & tokens, then study Island expansion before your next prestige push.
